Why Ashland At Home?

The Ashland At Home community provides an alternative to traditional retirement homes, recognizing the desire of older adults to remain in their own homes surrounded by familiar surroundings, neighbors, and friends. As we age, the need for support and assistance may increase, especially when family members are not nearby.

Ashland At Home is an all-volunteer organization that offers a supportive community of volunteers dedicated to helping members meet their evolving needs. In addition, educational and social activities are provided to bring members together to foster a sense of community. Through empowerment, and assistance tailored to individual needs, Ashland At Home fosters independence and a sense of belonging, valuing the unique experience of aging and enabling members to navigate this stage of life confidently and securely.

I’d say that the day I really understood it was FOLLY for me to climb my ladder and change air filters and/or smoke detector batteries, was the day it was clear…and desirable…to ask for help from AAH, which has been such a pleasure ever since!
Member - Brandy C.
I picked up a member request for a handyman to change some HVAC filters and secure some area rugs to the floor with double stick tape. Our 94-year-old member, spry and sharp as a tack, had been told that her curled up rug corners were real tripping hazards. I felt so good knowing that the simple and kind service I provided helped keep her safe and happy in her own home. That’s why I volunteer with AAH.
Volunteer - Gary S.
I love the exchange of ideas and skills possible within AAH. It's a place where I can ask for help with tasks, meet with community-minded people, and also offer my skills to others. While I might need a volunteer to climb a ladder for me, I can help another member with planning and organization.

The ability to demonstrate that you truly enjoy showing up and helping our members with their request for help is so important. Recognizing that we are all on the same team--members and volunteers alike.
